Privacy Policy — Empty Boat

Application: Empty Boat (emptyboat.app)
Publisher: mumaidi
Contact: mumaidi@proton.me
Effective date: 7 August 2026
Last updated: 7 August 2026

1. Summary

Empty Boat is a Buddhist-inspired reflection and mindfulness app. It has no user accounts, no login, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. The publisher operates no server and does not receive, store or hold any of your data.

Almost everything you do in Empty Boat stays on your device. There is one exception, and it is the most important part of this policy: text you type into the Companion screen is sent over the internet to a third-party service that generates the reply. That is described in Section 4.

2. Who is responsible for your data

The publisher, mumaidi, is the data controller for the limited processing described here.

Email: mumaidi@proton.me

We aim to respond to privacy requests within 30 days.

3. Data stored on your device

The following is written to the app's local storage on your phone. It is not transmitted to the publisher, and the publisher cannot read it.

Data Purpose
Journal entries you write To show you your own history
Practice records (scene, distress rating before/after, timestamp) To show your own progress
Your Solana wallet public address To show which account is connected
Whether you have finished the introduction So it is not shown every launch
Whether background music is on or off To remember your preference

This data is removed completely when you clear the app's storage or uninstall the app (Section 8).

4. Data sent off your device — please read

When you use the Companion screen, the message you type, together with the recent messages in that same conversation, is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection to a third-party language-model provider, DeepSeek (api.deepseek.com), which generates the response you see. This processing takes place on servers operated by DeepSeek outside Indonesia, including in the People's Republic of China.

What this means in practice:

Because these messages may describe personal difficulties, distress or health matters, please treat the Companion screen as you would any online service: do not enter your full name, address, phone number, financial details, government identifiers, or anything you would not want processed by a third party. If you want to reflect privately with nothing leaving your device, use the Journal screen instead, which is entirely local.

DeepSeek's privacy policy is available at https://www.deepseek.com/en/privacy-policy — please read it, as it governs their handling of that text.

5. Wallet connection

Empty Boat asks you to connect a Solana wallet using the Solana Mobile Wallet Adapter. When you approve the connection in your wallet app:

6. What we do not do

7. Children

Empty Boat deals with emotional difficulty and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the app and had data processed, contact mumaidi@proton.me and we will assist.

8. Retention and deletion

Because the publisher holds no data, there is no server-side account to erase. You have full control:

Deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no backup held by the publisher. Any retention of Companion messages by DeepSeek is governed by their policy; you may contact them directly regarding their retention and deletion practices.

9. Security

Traffic to the language-model service uses HTTPS/TLS. App content is served locally from within the app package over an internal https:// origin, and the app disables cleartext (unencrypted) network traffic. Data on your device is protected by Android's per-application sandbox and by your device passcode or biometric lock.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please keep your device locked and up to date.

10. International transfers

As described in Section 4, Companion messages are processed outside Indonesia, including in the People's Republic of China. Data-protection law in a receiving country may differ from the law of your own country. By using the Companion screen you consent to this transfer. If you do not wish your text to be transferred internationally, do not use the Companion screen — every other feature of the app works entirely offline.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

For data held on your device, you can exercise access and erasure directly and immediately using the controls in Section 8. For any other request, or to complain, contact mumaidi@proton.me.

12. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will accompany the app release that introduces the change, with a new "Last updated" date. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
